Building a Portfolio by Aimee-Lou Caldecourt:
I still believe I am relatively new to the industry and my portfolio isn’t massive, however the idea of having a readily available portfolio to show at anytime is key to pursuing a career in sports writing/content creation. The main thing I will always tell someone who asks for any advice from me, is to write as much as you can so you can build a portfolio to show to potential employers.
It is crucial to get your name out there. I was so lucky with my break into writing, I was able to write the analysis of the Women’s World Cup final in 2023 which sounded absolutely crazy to me as a new journalist.
Whether you’re writing on a self-made website or you’re writing for an outlet, it is really important that you keep track of your articles so you can, when prompted, provide examples of work you are proud of. One way I’d suggest doing this is creating a page, whether this just be a Linktree for now, where there are easily accessible links to your work. This will also be important when you’re wanting to take that first step to write for an outlet as many positions will ask you to submit a small portfolio of your best work.
My LinkedIn profile is also a digital portfolio for myself. I post all of the articles I have published on there as a way to show any employer my work. These are both great ways of being able to quickly provide examples of your best work.

Leyton Orient Women: a team on the rise in the football pyramid:
As the outstanding growth of women’s football continues, the spotlight continues to remain on the higher tier teams, but less so on the lower tiers who may also deserve recognition for their success. One team who have achieved plenty of success in their short amount of time as a team is Leyton Orient Women.
